國印 Guo Yin — The State Seal
The star of power, authority and public service

In ancient China, power had a very concrete material symbol — the imperial seal (玉璽, Yu Xi). This seal, usually of jade, was stamped onto state documents, giving them the force of law. Officials of lesser rank had their own seals — the symbol of their authority. The seal = legitimate power. Without a seal you are nobody; with a seal you are the bearer of the state's will.

In the BaZi system there is a star bearing the name of this key symbol of power — Guo Yin 國印 (literally "the Seal of the State"). Bearers of this star are endowed with a special quality: they attract official positions, posts, status, legitimate authority. This is not the "warrior's blade" (Yang Ren) nor the "wisdom of the sage" (Tai Ji Guiren). It is something else — the ability to fit into a hierarchy and to rise through it to the very top floors.

1 What Guo Yin is — its essence and history

Guo Yin belongs to the category of the "noble stars" (貴人), but it has a specific function — it "glues" the bearer to the structures of power. The classic treatise 三命通會 states: "Guo Yin is the star of those born for an official post. They become ministers, judges, military commanders. Without a seal no one rules — but for them the seal comes into their hands of its own accord."

Etymologically, the word "yin" (印) in modern Chinese means not only "seal," but also "sign," "stamp," "imprint." This is deeply symbolic: the bearer of Guo Yin leaves a mark on the history of the state, the organization, society. Their signature becomes significant. Their decisions carry force.

In the classical Zi Ping system, Guo Yin is closely connected with the group of "career" elements: Zheng Guan (正官 (zhèng guān — "the Direct Officer"), the Direct Office), Zheng Yin (正印 (zhèng yìn — "the Direct Resource"), the Direct Seal) — these are the "10 gods" that govern the theme of status and power. Guo Yin is a specific "amplifier star" of this theme.

2 How to calculate Guo Yin — the table from the Day Master

Guo Yin is calculated from the Day Master — the heavenly stem of the day of birth. Each Day Master corresponds to one specific earthly branch.

The logic of the calculation: Guo Yin is the branch in which the "root" of the Day Master meets the element of the "Seal" (Yin, 印星) or the "Office" (Guan, 官星). This creates that "state" energy which makes the bearer capable of an official career.

How to use the table:

1. Find your Day Master.
2. Determine the Guo Yin branch from the table.
3. Check whether this branch is present in your chart — in any of the four pillars.

3 Guo Yin in the different pillars of the chart

The position of Guo Yin determines exactly how the "state" theme will manifest in life.

Guo Yin in the Year Pillar

The year is the pillar of the ancestors. Guo Yin here means:

• There are/were officials, military men, lawyers, representatives of "state" professions in the lineage.
• Inherited status, connections with state structures "by birth."
• An early acquaintance with the world of power — for example, through the family.
• A sense of "respect for tradition and hierarchy" from an early age.

Often such people continue a dynasty — they become lawyers/officials following their parents. If they choose a different path — they often feel "guilt before the family."

Guo Yin in the Month Pillar — the best position

The month is the pillar of the career. This is the ideal position for Guo Yin. Here the star works at full strength:

• A career in state or quasi-state structures.
• Rapid ascent up the hierarchical ladder.
• Obtaining official titles, awards, posts.
• The ability to "fit into the system," to know the unwritten rules, to understand the hierarchy.
• A natural authority among colleagues and subordinates.

Most successful civil servants, high-level lawyers, heads of corporate departments have Guo Yin in the Month Pillar.

Guo Yin in the Day Branch

The day is the personal pillar and the pillar of the spouse. Guo Yin here:

• A marriage to a person from a "respectable family," with social status.
• In the family the person naturally takes the leading position.

Guo Yin in the Hour Pillar

The hour is the late stage. Guo Yin here:

• A "second career" in mature age — often in politics, public work, boards of directors.
• Receiving high state awards and titles in one's mature years.
• Children go into state/legal/corporate careers.
• In old age — the status of a "respected elder," an "advisor of generations."

4 The bright side — what Guo Yin gives its bearer

Guo Yin in its positive manifestation is one of the most "practically useful" stars in a chart. It translates directly into social and material success.

6 Combinations of Guo Yin with other stars

Guo Yin + Zheng Guan (正官)

The classic "career" combination. Ideal for public service. The bearer naturally rises up the official ladder, receives titles and posts, holds high status. Most successful civil servants of traditional eras had this combination.

Guo Yin + Zheng Yin (正印)

The "Direct Seal" — the god of protection, education, support. Its combination with Guo Yin gives an academic-administrative career. The bearer often becomes a university rector, the director of a research institute, a minister of education. Power + knowledge = the ideal union.

Guo Yin + Qi Sha (七殺)

The "Seven Killings" — the god of force and suppression. Its combination with Guo Yin gives a "military" career in the broad sense. Guo Yin + Kong Wang

8 Professions and industries for people with an active Guo Yin

Public service

Ministries, agencies, municipal administrations, diplomacy, parliamentary work. This is the "classic" element of Guo Yin. The bearer naturally fits into the hierarchy and grows.

Chairs of international organizations. UN secretaries-general, presidents of the World Bank, heads of the IMF — those whose signature has global consequences.

10 Practical application — how to work with Guo Yin

Knowledge of Guo Yin should turn into concrete life actions.

Step 1. Determine the presence and strength of Guo Yin

Using the table from section 2, find the Guo Yin branch for your Day Master. Check all the pillars of the chart. Pay special attention to the Month Pillar.

Step 2. Acknowledge your path

If your Guo Yin is active, your "right path" is through hierarchical structures. This is neither "bad" nor "good" — it is simply a fact. Do not try to be a "free artist" if your star is the seal. Do not try to rebel against the system if you were born to serve it. Acknowledge your nature.
