七殺 Seven Killings —
the Most Dramatic God of the Chart

In the system of the Ten Gods (十神, Shí Shén) there is one God that frightens beginners and fascinates masters. Its name is 七殺 (Qī Shā) — "Seven Killings." This is the star of conflict, pressure, extreme force and transformation through ordeal. Charts with a strong, tamed 七殺 belong to people who change the world — commanders, reformers, surgeons, pioneering entrepreneurs. Charts with an untamed 七殺 are an unending storm.

Where does the name "Seven Killings" come from? In traditional numerology, the number 7 in Chinese metaphysics is associated with sharp objects, warfare and harsh change. The "Killings" are not a literal threat to life, but a metaphor for an aggressive, transforming force. 七殺 "kills" your comfort zone, your old patterns, your weakness. And if you are ready — it makes you indestructible.

1 How 七殺 is calculated: the mechanics of relationships

In the BaZi system, each of the Ten Gods is defined by the relationship of an element to the element of the Day Master. 七殺 is the type of element that controls your Day Master, but with the opposite polarity (Yin/Yang).

Here is how it works in terms of Wu Xing (the mutual control of the elements): Metal chops Wood, Fire melts Metal, Water quenches Fire, Earth absorbs Water, Wood pierces Earth. The element that "controls" your Day Master is the star of Control. If the polarity is opposite → 七殺; if it is the same → 正官 (Direct Officer).

2 The 七殺 archetype: who these people are

Bearers of a strong 七殺 in the chart are people who cannot be ignored. They enter a room — and everyone feels it. There is something sharp, real, uncomfortable about them. They are not built to compromise for the sake of peace. They are built to win.

In the Chinese tradition it is said: 七殺为祸，亦为功 — "七殺 can be a calamity, and can be a merit." It all depends on whether it is tamed.

3 Tamed vs Wild 七殺

This is the central concept. 七殺 in itself is neutral — it merely amplifies what is already in the chart. But it must be "tamed" (制殺), otherwise its energy destroys its bearer from within.

🔑 The main tamer: 食神 (Eating God)

The classic text "Ming Li Bu Gui Ge" states: 食神制殺，威震八方 — "The Eating God tames the Killing — its might shakes the eight directions." 食神 creates an outlet channel for the aggressive energy of 七殺: instead of destroying its bearer, it is transformed into creative achievement, charisma, victories.

• Constant conflicts that the person provokes themselves;
• Self-destructive behavior: extreme risk without calculation;
• Aggressiveness, an explosive temper, intolerance of criticism;
• Attraction to violence (victim or aggressor in relationships);

4 七殺 in a career: professions and roles

七殺 is the star of the sharp instrument and direct action. People with a strong 七殺 instinctively choose professions involving extreme pressure, competition, or the need to make hard decisions.

• Military service, law enforcement, combat sports — a direct channel for aggressive energy;
• Surgery, emergency medicine, military medicine — sharp instruments + pressure;
• Entrepreneurship in competitive industries — high risk and high reward;
• Law (criminal cases, prosecution) — fighting against the system or for it;
• Reformist politics — breaking the outdated without fearing enemies;
• Crisis management, M&A, restructurings — hard decisions on tight deadlines.

5 七殺 and money

七殺 is not a star of wealth directly. Its connection to money runs through power and risk. Bearers of 七殺 often earn in extreme conditions: where ordinary people are afraid to go.

In a chart where 七殺 meets 偏財 (Indirect Wealth), we see the archetype of the "market predator" — a trader, a speculator, an adventuring entrepreneur who makes money on other people's crises. This is a high-risk but high-yield formula.

If 七殺 is not tamed — money comes and goes just as swiftly. Aggression in financial decisions, an inability to hold on to what is accumulated, compulsive bets.

6 七殺 in relationships

For women

In the traditional interpretation of BaZi, a woman's husband star is the star of Control (正官 or 七殺). 七殺 in a woman points to a partner who is vivid, intense, possibly domineering or unstable. It can be a passionate romance — but with the risks of manipulation, inconsistency, pressure.

If the 七殺 in a woman's chart is not tamed — she either attracts partners with traits of dominance/aggression, or carries 七殺 qualities into the relationship herself (harshness, intolerance). A tamed 七殺 (through 食神 or 印) means a partner who is vivid and a leader, but who respects boundaries.

For men

For a man, 七殺 represents rivals, subordinates, people who pressure or challenge him. A man with a strong 七殺 often provokes rivalry himself — it is his way of growing. In relationships he can be domineering, demanding, intense.

7 七殺 and health

七殺 is the star of the sharp, the cutting, the traumatic. In health it correlates with:

• Surgical interventions — especially during periods of activation;
• Injuries, fractures, cuts — accidents under a "wild" 七殺;
• Diseases of the circulatory system — blood pressure, inflammation;
• Neurological strain — chronically being in "combat" mode;
• Stress-dependent conditions: hypertension, stomach ulcers, stress-related cardiac arrhythmias.

8 七殺 and 魁罡: a double force

Special attention deserves the combination of 七殺 with the special structure 魁罡 Kuí Gāng (四柱 戊戌, 庚戌, 庚辰, 壬辰). People with Kuí Gāng in their chart already carry a hard, uncompromising leader archetype. If a strong 七殺 is added to this — we have the chart of a person capable of historic achievements. Or of catastrophic self-destruction — if there is no taming.

In the Joey Yap school such charts are called "charts of outstanding people" — but with a caveat: without control, greatness turns into tyranny.

9 Activation in Da Yun and Liu Nian

When your luck decade (大運 Da Yun) or the current year (流年 Liu Nian) carries a 七殺 stem/branch — this is a critical period of transformation. What happens:

• External challenges intensify: competitors become active, bosses apply pressure, the system resists;
• Health requires attention: the risk of injuries, operations, stress conditions;
• In relationships — drama: conflicts, breakups, toxic attractions;
• A career breakthrough is possible — but only if the 七殺 in your chart is tamed by 食神 or 印;
• If it is not tamed — this is a period of "destruction before construction."

History is full of people whose life path coincides with the 七殺 archetype — regardless of whether they knew about BaZi or not. Commanders capable of unpopular decisions at critical moments. Entrepreneurs bursting into a market by breaking all the rules. Reformers whom the hostility of their contemporaries did not stop from changing the world.

What they all share: they did not seek comfort — they sought victory. And 七殺 gave them a strength that cannot be copied.
